Ohana is the Hawaiian word for family. It is in the spirit of ‘ohana that Libby & Tom Hill and their dedicated staff open Family Karate, the ‘Ohana Dojo, and invite all who share in that spirit to join us.

Family Karate is a community of martial artists of all skill levels striving to be stronger physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually through training in martial arts. We conduct our training in a supportive family atmosphere. We believe training in such a manner not only creates stronger individuals but stronger families, and ultimately creates a larger family of which we are all a part.

FUN Days!

August 04 2010

August 16 through 19 will be FUN Days at Family Karate.  Students are encouraged to bring buddies to class.  Any one interested in trying free classes are invited to attend as well.  In stead of the usual curriculum we will be teaching weapons techniques, board breaking, padded weapon fighting, and playing martial arts games.  We will also be marching in the Lake County Fair Parade and holding a tournament.  Join us!

Join Family Karate on Wednesday, July 28 for the Captains game and Feed Your Face Night.  Tickets are available at the Front Desk for $7.00 for the game and $10 for the wristband.  Take yourselves out to the ballgame!

On Thursday, July 1 Family Karate will be in the Mardi Gras Parade.  Students will meet at Sensei Hills’ home in Painesville and carpool over to the line-up area.  This year we will have a trailer for our little students to ride in thanks to the Volpe family.  After the parade we will return to the Hills’ home and cool off in their swimming pool.  For more information see Amy at the Front Desk.

Family Karate will be closed June 28 to July 5 for cleaning and maintenance.  There will be a Dojo Cleaning Day on June 29 from 2:00 to 8:00PM.  There will be jobs for all ages.  Pizza and beverages will be provided for all volunteers.  Help us keep our dojo clean!

Please get a copy of our summer schedule at the Front Desk.  Family Karate has added Dragon classes in the morning.  In addition, there will be a new class time for teens and adults only.  In July we are offering a girls self-defense class in conjunction with Girls with Sole.  This class will be on Wednesdays at 2:00PM.  Finally Family Karate will be closed on Friday evenings for the summer.  Please check out the new offerings and times!

Get Fit Challenge!

May 08 2010

Only two more weeks and participants are psyched about their progress.  At the halfway point everyone lost significant inches and are looking forward to our final weigh-in.  The surprising point was that not everyone lost weight, but all could do more push-up, sit-ups, and a faster walk.  They are already planning for the next round in the fall.  Will you be joining us?

KidShow

March 16 2010

Come visit the Family Karate booth during KidShow March 27 & 28 at the Great Lakes Mall.  Our regularly scheduled classes Saturday morning March 27 will be held at the mall by our booth.  Team ‘Ohana’s demonstrations will be 4:00PM on Saturday and 1:30PM on Sunday.  There will be tuition specials for new students, games, giveaways, and fun!  See you at Kidshow!

Want to meet us in person?  We want to meet you, too!  Stop by our booth at the Lake County Chambers of Commerce event at the Great Lakes Mall February 26 & 27.  Win a karate party or free lessons in our raffle.  Watch our classes on Friday night and Saturday morning.  Get more information about our classes or our new exciting program, Get Fit Challenge.  See you at the Mall!

Looking for a fun and different birthday party idea? Family Karate can provide a unique birthday bash. We can also provide parties for adults and businesses! We have times on Saturdays & Sundays.  Give us a call at 440-255-7300 for more details!

Family Karate’s classes for 40+ Karate are on Tuesdays & Thursdays at 7:30 p.m.  This is a traditionally based program with much of the spirit of karate without many of the activities that can be harmful to the older physique.  For more information or to try a class call us at 440-255-7300 or email Libby@karate4family.com.  All ages can keep kicking!
